How to plan birthday party decorations

Start with a colour scheme and build everything around it. Rose gold, gold and black suit adult milestones, while rainbow, unicorn and character themes work well for kids. Pick one feature piece, such as a banner behind the cake table, then add balloons, confetti on the tables and candles in a matching colour. Numeral candles show the age at a glance: one jumbo number suits a young child, and two numerals work for an adult birthday. Scatter shredded paper or foil confetti along the table rather than on the food, and keep it away from toddlers who might put it in their mouths. Set up the decorations the night before so the morning is free for food and guests. If you need plates, cups and napkins to match, our party tableware comes in the same colours. For games and favours, add a lolly-filled pinata, temporary tattoos for the loot bags, and send birthday invitations two to three weeks ahead.

Shop birthday supplies in store or online
